Giraffe is a beatiful and special animal





Family: Giraffidae



The Giraffe the tallest animal of all the species of animals, it lives in the dry regions and with trees dispersed, located to the south of the desert of the Sahara.

The male can measure from 4,80 until 5,50 meters and its weight can be until 900 kilogramos. The female are general a little more smaller than the male and its weight is less too.

The giraffe, only has seven cervical vertebras that are very big to sustain her long and muscular neck. By the great distance that it exists between the heart and the head, the giraffes have a mechanism regulator that maintains constant the sanguine pressure of the brain.

The tongue is long and it measures 40 cm of longitude, and it is very flexible; they use it together with the superior lip to pull up the leaves of the highest branches in the trees.
The body has stains of hair of dark color, located on a bottom of cream color. As the giraffe grows, her color becomes darker. Each animal possesses his own design of stains.
The giraffe ends up living until the 26 years in freedom and up to the 36 in captivity.
The giraffes make the sense of the hearing and of the excellent smell, as well as a very good view.
The giraffes non migran during the dry stations, because they get their food and most of the water that they need of the leaves of the Acacias. They can spend more than one month without drinking.
The giraffe rests and it sleeps of foot.
The communication among these animals is carried out by means of the emission of wailings and of other sounds of very low notes.
The female has a period of gestation of 15 months, at the end of which gives birth to a single breeding that when it is born it measures a height between 1,7 and 2 m. The giraffes were hunted to get their thick and resistant skin, but at the present time it is a protected species.
